HISTORY

This first release limited edition box set, celebrating the fabulous art deco style of Marilyn's youth, is entitled 'Black Sitting no.39.'

Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926 in the dark shadow of the Hollywood Hills. After a turbulent childhood and a controversial 'modeling' carreer amongst the 'fauves' of beauty, Marilyn became a shooting star - lighting up the silver screen with her colorful presence and her 'green' young beauty.

Milton H. Greene was born in Brooklyn, in 1922. While in high school he began his photographic career as an assistant to Louise Dahle-Wolfe. He was a highly regarded fashion photographer when he met Marilyn Monroe on a shoot for Look magazine in 1953.

Enamored with the idea of the famous fashion photographer coming to take pictures of the starlett, Marilyn seemed to have a grand vision of Milton. When the sight of Milton, on that fateful day in 1953, revealed 'Color Photography's Wonder Boy', Marilyn hastily commented "Why you're just a boy?" to which Milton replied with a smile "And you're just a girl." An endearing and lasting friendship was born.

This box set is a tribute to 'just a boy' and 'just a girl.'

Available for purchase only from The Archives.

What Do People Say?

"We received the fabulous Marilyn Green Box Set Black Sitting No. 39 as a gift. It sits on a marble coffee table in our living room where it draws people to it like a magnet. Having had the pleasure of working with Milton Greene, I know first-hand how talented, inspired and hard-working he was. That special talent lives on in the thousands of photographs he took of the famous, the glamorous, the unforgettable faces of his time. The "Milton's Marilyn" book, with its marvelous photographs and "inside" stories is, to us, the ultimate Marilyn-Milton memorial. That it was put together by Milton's son Joshua is the icing on the cake of this truly gorgeous tribute."
